HyShot II scramjet
The HyShotII scramjet model has seven inputs characterizing the inflow conditions. Using active subspaces, we discovered a one-dimensional parameterization that enabled thorough uncertainty quantification studies for the complex, multiphysics simulation.

Aerodynamic shape optimization

Three-dimensional geometries are often parameterized by tens-to-hundreds of shape parameters, which enables design and control studies with the geometry. With active subspaces, we discovered a one-dimensional parameterization of the 50-dimensional geometry description that changed lift and drag the most.

Integrated hydrologic model

Integrated hydrologic models couple subsurface flow models with land models that characterize the interface between the subsurface and the atmosphere. These models contain several parameters that control the characterization. And these parameters affect model predictions for quantities of interest like temperature and evaporation. We use active subspaces to identify a low-dimensional parameterization of a particular integrated hydrologic model that increases efficiency and confidence in model predictions.

Single-diode solar cell model

Solar cell circuit models contain several parameters that control the model predictions. We identify a one-dimensional active subspace in the five-dimensional space of model parameters. This low-dimensional parameterization can aid in calibration and uncertainty quantification.
